Bruce Phillips - Drama Tutor, 2007 Summer School
Bruce has been an actor, director and writer in theatre since graduating with a BA in French at Victoria University in 1974. While there he performed in many Drama Society plays before starting his professional life in radio drama. He has appeared in over a hundred professional productions at Circa and Downstage Theatres in Wellington, Christchurch's Court Theatre and two productions at the Auckland Theatre Company (Dead Funny 1995 and Take A Chance On Me 2001 & 2002). His latest appearance has been in The Cherry Orchard, Dinner, The Rivals as Sir Anthony Absolute and The Goat as Martin Gray. Bruce was an orginal cast member of Joyful and Triumphant which toured all over New Zealand, Australia and to London. For the last 20 years Bruce has been a member of the council running Circa Theatre. He has directed 12 productions there including Hamlet and MacBeth.
Television Credits include Worzel Gummidge Down Under (3 series as NZ Crowman opposite Jon Pertwee and Una Stubbs), 2 years on Country GP, Erebus-The Aftermath, Shark in the Park, Shortland Street, Bert and Maisy, Fallout, Neighbourhood Watch and four episodes of Hercules.
Film credits include Alex, Rainbow Warrior, Without a Paddle, Lord of the Rings 2 & 3 and Out of the Blue (playing Chris Cole, one of the victims).
Musical Theatre credits include Flibberty Gibbert and The Penguin, Music Hall, Piaf, Little Shop of Horrors, Love Knots, Fresh Revolving Pleasures and A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum.
As a writer Bruce has written 12 radio plays produced by Radio New Zealand and over a hundred hours of television including Peppermint Twist, Open House and Gloss. He has performed in countless radio plays, commercial voice-overs and appeared in numerous TV ads, the latest being the Marine Safety ad. Bruce is very excited to be part of the CCMT team for summer 2007
