Taane Mete - Dance Tutor, 2011, 2009, 2008 Summer School
Taane graduated with honours from the New Zealand School of Dance in 1988 and is considered one of this country’s most outstanding and versatile dancers.
His 22 years of experience has seen him perform with companies such as Footnote, Douglas Wright, Taiao Dance Company, Fusion Dance Theatre, Michael Parmenter’s (Commotion Company), The Royal New Zealand Ballet, Human Garden Dance Company and Atamira Dance Collective. Taane was also a founding member and a senior dancer for Black Grace Dance Company.
Taane also works as a choreographer and dance tutor at UNITEC Performing Arts. He has choreographed sections for many events including New Zealand Fashion Week and the opening of the Vector Arena in Auckland. Taane also featured in the short film ‘Hurtle’ by Shona McCullagh (Human Garden), and Peter Jackson’s ‘King Kong’. Taane performed for a month on Broadway in New York in 2005.
In 2007 Taane joined forces with Taiaroa Royal and together they formed Okareka Dance Company Ltd. Their successful show Tama Ma has toured New Zealand, America and China. Okareka will tour Tama Ma to Perth and Brisbane 2010 / 2011.
Taane graduated from the Leadership New Zealand programme in 2008 and continues to advocate a leadership role in the dance community as well as developing a dance program catered to tertiary students.
Taane has choreographed for New Zealand’s Next Top Model for TV2 (2010) and he has recently returned from WOW, World of Wearable Art as a choreographer and a senior dancer.
