Student Update - Ryan Bennett

FIREFACE – at ATYP’s Under the Wharf season, August 2013

Past CCMT student, now professional actor/singer Ryan Bennett was recently cast in Fireface a very original play with a cast of 5. The play is about a family - parents, daughter and son – and the daughter’s boyfriend, the relationships between them all - family values, family unit functions, mental illness, pyromania…

Ryan particularly wanted to work with the team involved with Fireface, none of whom he knew previously, knowing they would be critically reviewed. He was excited by the material and the exposure to the industry - a top venue (Under the Wharf theatre), location, team and the big season he got to be part of. Director Luke Rogers (of Stories Like These) has done great work at the Griffin, The New and many other Sydney venues. Luke graduated from NIDA's directing program. Darcy Brown (who played the son) is a NIDA grad from last year who is on the rise and Darcie Irwin-Simpson (the daughter) was a double award nominee in the Sydney Theatre Awards for Punk Rock.  The parents were both very well regarded seasoned actors.

Ryan’s aim has been fulfilled with ‘Stage Whisper’s’ reviewer describing Ryan’s performance as ‘outstanding’.
