Centre City Music Theatre (CCMT) has announced the appointment of Hamish McGregor as its 2017 Emerging Talent School Director.

In making the announcement, CCMT Board Chair, Linda Fox said “We are absolutely delighted with next year’s ETS Director appointment.”

“Hamish McGregor is in big demand across the country. We were extremely fortunate to secure his commitment to the Director’s role for our January Emerging Talent School to be held in Auckland from 14 – 22 January next year.”

“Hamish offers students lucky enough to attend next year’s ETS so many positives – not only is he an extremely talented musical theatre director and actor with extensive experience in both capacities – he’s also a qualified school teacher. Hamish is extremely well connected and respected, not just in theatre but also in the international education sector having also taught in China and South Korea.”

McGregor recently directed A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum in Auckland and is currently directing Avenue Q in Gore.

Earlier this year, McGregor co-wrote and directed with Naomi Cohen, Hungover - a Musical Comedy, a show that enjoyed a close to sell-out season at the Basement Theatre in Auckland. At the same time Hamish was co-directing The Wizard of Oz for ACG Parnell College.

“Hamish was appointed from an impressive list of applicants,” said Fox, “and we are doubly delighted because not only is he a former ETS tutor but also one of our earliest course participants. This adds so strongly to his understanding of what ETS means to the future young stars of theatre.

“We are so grateful that he has agreed to take time out from his busy schedule to commit to our Emerging Talent School. It illustrates his belief in what ETS helps build and deliver to our younger talent.”

“Hamish knows what they need to take away from this very special and intensive programme to ensure they develop as future stars of New Zealand theatre. We are totally excited with the format he has designed for the week and also the extremely impressive list of professional performers and tutors he has enrolled to assist him deliver this school”.

“It is going to be a very special learning event!”
